Creative Dinners

By Paige Johnson

During times like these, our everyday routines begin to feel a little mundane and repetitive. It’s important that we try to find fun activities to do that make things a little more interesting. One of the ways this can be done is through our meals. I’ve been seeing a lot of people doing themed dinners. They come up with a certain theme for the night, dress up in a fun way and cook a dinner that fits the theme. It’s kind of hard to get to the grocery store right now, so another way to do this would be to look at the foods you have and come up with a theme based off of what you already have in your house. This is also a great way for kids to use some of their writing skills! Here are some different ways writing can be incorporated into this activity.

Invitations are a great way for the kids to practice their letter writing skills. They can come up with invitations for each family member, inviting them to the theme dinner. These invitations can be decorated to fit the theme or however they want! This is a great opportunity for them to let their creativity go wild.

One fun way that writing can be incorporated into this activity is through menus. Kids can write the foods that will be served, along with a description of what the food includes. They can use vivid verbs to make the descriptions more detailed and draw pictures to go along with the descriptions. The theme can also be applied to the descriptions, so they have certain guidelines for how to write them.

Place Cards

Another fun way that kids can use their writing skills is by making place cards to set at the table. These can be a little more fun than just people’s names. They can write a short letter to the person who is sitting in that spot and add decorations to the place cards.

Finding fun things to do can be challenging when we have to stay inside and do the same things most days, but it’s important to add a little variety into our lives. Simple things like having a fun themed dinner can make life a little more interesting during this time. It’s also a great way to incorporate some writing in a fun, creative way. I hope you’re staying safe and healthy! Thanks for reading.
