If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three things with you, what would you bring? Well, the students at Horace Mann Elementary School decided they would need to bring Katy Perry. Who would have thought you may need some entertainment during your stay on the deserted island? While Madeline and Angeloboth said Katy Perry is a necessity, Max was a bit more witty and decided to bring a genie who could grand him infinite wishes; genius. Not once did I hear someone say they would bring their stuffed animal (something I wouldsecretly bring). The extent of these students’ imaginations continues to amaze me. From imaginary hashtag lands to duck trees, over and over again, I have seen the students at Horace Mann take creativity to another level. This activity was no exception. As we sat in a circle to come up with the items we would each bring on a deserted island, I was able to see these students’ minds at work. I watched each one of them in awe as they brainstormed, scribbled something, erased something, and finally wrote down their best idea. As a 21-year-old college student, I often forget how much talent children possess, but each Tuesday, during activities like this one, these students remind me.
